I have been a teacher for almost 40 years, and my heart has always been with young people...especially those with limited opportunities due to poverty and marginalization. In my first year of teaching at 22, I saw firsthand how migrant families in California lived and worked.

In honor of Lent/Easter, in celebration of young people, and in recognition of an inspirational youth leader and Claretian priest, I wish to help raise funds for the Our Lady of Guadalupe Claretian Youth Group in South Chicago.

My goal is to help raise funds for the Our Lady of Guadalupe Claretian Youth Group in South Chicago in hopes of creating new learning and social opportunities, such as taking trips to college campuses and other institutions offering educational opportunities. With your help, we also might be able to offer Youth Group members opportunities to visit museums and theaters, attend cultural events like symphonies, and experience dinner venues where they have never been before.

This rapidly growing group is just one of the ministries of an inspired Claretian, Fr Byron Macias, CMF, whom I respect and admire. Starting with an old, vacant building, a beautiful, inviting, safe space has been created for young people, welcoming all who enter. Now, through your generosity, these youth have hope for opportunities to spread their wings with funds enough to introduce them to a world beyond their community and all too familiar poverty and marginalization, to discover a world of culture, education, and equity.

You can build bridges to their hearts with just a small donation to help meet this goal for the OLG Claretian Youth Group.

In celebration of inspirational youth leaders, in solidarity, building bridges to cross for marginalized youth from worlds of poverty and violence to worlds of hope and opportunity, much gratitude for your donation
